About 12 million (17.1%) kids in the U.S. ages 2-19 are overweight. An additional 12 million are at risk of being overweight. That’s in addition to the two-thirds of U.S. adults who are either overweight or obese. Isn’t it about time we turned things around?
National Fitness Center and Court South are partnering with the Knoxville News Sentinel, Food City, and WBIR to encourage people in East Tennessee to Get Active! - men and women, young and old, from all walks of life - all could benefit from a more active lifestyle.
Six entries were chosen from the 180+ sent in via newspaper and online, therefore making up the gtactvETn! squad. We will be following these six team members for 12 weeks while they work out with a personal trainer, attend group fitness classes, and follow the nutrition program provided online. At the end of the 12-week program, the results will be measured and a final makeover will be revealed. During these twelve weeks, members of the gtactvETn! squad will be keeping an up-to-date blog detailing their workout regimen, personal struggles, motivators, pictures, etc. There will also be on-air mentions and updates throughout the process on WBIR, and in the Knoxville News Sentinel. Incentives from the promotional partners will be provided to group members during the process.
The East Tennessee community will also be encouraged to Get Active! They will participate in a community Get Active East Tennessee! blog where they can communicate and watch the progress of others in their area, as well as keep their own blog. Community participants who show a drastic change in lifestyle will receive prizes from the promotional partners.
